| COUNTDOWN 2015 The NPLA has begun. The league is modeled after 4 professional sports giants, the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. If the fans want it, the NPL will field 32 teams, professionals in every sense of the word. The Countdown is for 40,000 season tickets per team. Systems are being integrated. Advanced ticket processing is established and will begin January 1, 2011. Team cities and playing stadiums have been identified. Critical staffing has begun. Grassroots youth and high-school club organizations are receiving franchise ownerships. Ticket reservations will begin January 1, 2011. Venue negotiations will begin mid February 2011. The grassroots are being well planted. |
"THE NPLA is only about two groups of people ... the guys who put on the jerseys and step over the white line (the players), and the people who come out to watch them play (the fans). We will not put a team into its venue until 40,000 of its fans have said that they want this professional team playing in their back yard. AND ONLY THEN will we have sustainable professional lacrosse". |
| JUST IMAGINE ... It's 1958, and you are sitting in the stands watching the "greatest football game ever played". It's the 1958 National Football League Championship Game on December 28 at Yankee Stadium in New York City ... and you are there. So is Unitas, and Berry, and Weeb Eubank, Sam Huff and Frank Gifford, and Tom Landry and Vince Lombardi, Gino Marchetti and Arty Donovan, and a host of others, all of the greats ... and you are there. It was the first ever National Football League (NFL) game to go into sudden death overtime. The final score was Baltimore Colts 23, New York Giants 17. The game, that has since become widely known as "The Greatest Game Ever Played" was the 26th annual NFL championship game ... and you are there. The game marked the beginning of the NFL's popularity surge, and eventual rise to the top of the United States sports market. A major reason was the game was televised across the nation by NBC. Baltimore receiver Raymond Berry recorded 12 receptions for 178 yards and a touchdown. His 12 receptions are a championship record that stands to this day ... and you are there. Now, close your eyes for just a moment. Feel your emotions ... it's Unitas' infamous 2-minute drill in OT, a march into infamy. See yourself with 40,000 other fans on your feet, the sound is deafening. Your heart is pounding with every play. Now picture it, with all of the screaming, with all of the excitement, with all of the drama ... and imagine, at the very moment of Unitas' finish ... it was lacrosse ... and you are there. |

FRANCHISE The term "franchise" has had many meanings in history. The original definition came from France in the 14th century and was said to be the act of setting a person free from servitude. Modern definitions include everything from food to sports to the rights as a citizen of a nation. In Sports A sports franchise is a team or event which is given authority by a league or sports organization to operate in a certain city. Merriam Webster is more specific in its definition: a : the right of membership in a professional sports league b : a team and its operating organization having such membership In the NPLA In exchange for $ and other valuable and measurable consideration, the National Professional Lacrosse Association is initially awarding 26 of its 32 franchises for a professional team within the NPLA to deserving Lacrosse Associations/Programs/Advocates within each NPLA market. Forbes has determined that the top 120 Sports Franchises in 2008 range in value from $86 million to $1.1 billion. Their revenues, extraordinary. It is the NPLA's intention to move lacrosse into those ranks. Through franchising, much of NPLA's share of revenue from this 'money sport' will have opportunity to go directly back into the grass roots sources of its success, 32 resourceful and local Lacrosse Organizations. |
